Start with a short list

Before shopping, note which products you need to replace and which ones you would like to try. Separate essentials from optional finds so it is easier to decide when several products catch your eye.

Look beyond the brand name

If you are comparing makeup from NYX, e.l.f. or L’Oréal, start with products in the same category and with the same finish: two price tags do not tell the whole story. Note the size, shade and intended use; for comparable products, also work out the price per millilitre or gram. Then judge each option against your budget and routine.
